Mama's Chocolate Cookies

Mama Made the best Chocolate Cookies, She had this cookbook that was lost years ago. Pam recently found a copy with the recipe. Mama sometimes would use Mint Extract instead of vanilla.
We kids use to love these cookies.
CHOCOLATE COOKIES
6 Tbsp Butter or butter substitute
3/4 cup chopped nuts
1 1/2 Sq unsweetened Chocolate
3/4 cup sugar
6 Tbsp Milk
1 egg, well beaten
1/3 tsp Baking soda
1 1/8 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
Melt chocolate over hot water. Cream butter or butter substitute
and sugar. Add chocolate and egg. Mix thoroughly. Sift flour,
measure, and sift with baking-soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add alternately with milk to first mixture. Add flavoring and nuts.
Mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto well-oiled baking
sheet. Bake in hot oven (400 F) 10-12 minutes. 30 servings.
If desired, cookies may be iced.
